Breakdown Coordinator

Memphis, TN

We are seeking a highly organized, problem-solving Breakdown Coordinator to join our maintenance team.

In this role, you will provide critical support to our fleet drivers experiencing mechanical issues or emergencies on the road. You will diagnose issues remotely, dispatch emergency roadside services, and manage maintenance vendors to ensure our trucks return to service quickly and safely.

Key Responsibilities

  • Driver Support: Serve as the first point of contact for drivers facing over-the-road breakdowns or accidents.
  • Issue Diagnosis: Interview drivers to accurately assess and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, or tire failures.
  • Vendor Management: Locate, dispatch, and negotiate pricing with third-party repair shops, towing companies, and mobile mechanics.
  • Cost Control: Review repair estimates, scrutinize labor times, and authorize expenses within pre-approved company limits.
  • Data Management: Open, update, and close repair orders utilizing fleet maintenance software (e.g., Dossier, TMT).
  • Stakeholder Communication: Provide real-time updates regarding repair status and ETAs to dispatchers, operations, and safety teams.
  • Compliance Assurance: Verify that all emergency roadside repairs satisfy DOT and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) standards.

Skills We’re Looking For

  • Technical Skills: Proficient with fleet management software, GPS tracking systems, and the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage stressful, fast-paced situations calmly.
  • Problem Solving: Strong critical thinking skills to evaluate repair options and pick the most cost-effective, efficient solutions.
  • Availability: Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, or holidays, to support a 24/7/365 fleet operation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in logistics or automotive technology is a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in trucking logistics, diesel mechanics, service writing, or fleet dispatching.
